Wooden lighting in India: what NixWoods buyers choose (2025–26 data)
Share
Wall lights make up almost half of the wooden lights Indian buyers order from NixWoods (46% of lighting orders), and a linear wall light, the solid teak Aurora, is the single most-ordered light we make.
These figures come from our own Shopify orders for the year from 13 October 2025 to 12 October 2026. We publish them as shares, not totals, so that designers, journalists and anyone choosing a wooden light can see what other Indian homes actually buy. The method is at the end of the page.
Which wooden lights do Indian buyers order most?
Wall lights lead clearly. Of the orders that contained a wall light, table lamp, floor lamp or pendant, 46% were for a wall light and 27% for a table lamp. Floor lamps followed at 19%, and pendants at 9%, the smallest share of the four types.
| Type of light | Share of lighting orders |
|---|---|
| Wall lights | 46% |
| Table lamps | 27% |
| Floor lamps | 19% |
| Pendants | 9% |
Spend per order tells a different story. Pendants are the highest-spend category per order, and floor lamps the lowest. The NixLine floor lamp, our lowest-priced lamp, sits in that lowest-spend category.
Which NixWoods lights are bought most?
The Aurora linear wall light in solid teak is our most-ordered light, followed by the Rubik's Cube lamp in sheesham and glass. The NixLine teak floor lamp is third, the Scandinavian rosewood and teak round pendant fourth, and the Nix Line 30-inch LED wall light fifth. All four types of light appear in the top five.
| Rank | Light | Type | Wood |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Aurora wooden linear wall light | Wall light | Solid teak |
| 2 | Rubik's Cube lamp | Table lamp | Sheesham, with glass |
| 3 | NixLine floor lamp | Floor lamp | Solid teak |
| 4 | Scandinavian round pendant | Pendant | Rosewood and teak |
| 5 | Nix Line 30-inch LED wall light | Wall light | Solid wood |
Two of the five are slim wall lights. That matches the category picture above: when Indian buyers choose a wooden light, the wall is the most common choice.
Where in India do wooden-light orders come from?
Karnataka sends the most orders, at 24%, with Maharashtra close behind at 21%. Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Delhi each account for 8%. Taken together, the four southern states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Telangana make up 44% of our orders.
| State or union territory | Share of orders |
|---|---|
| Karnataka | 24% |
| Maharashtra | 21% |
| Haryana | 8% |
| Tamil Nadu | 8% |
| Delhi | 8% |
| Uttar Pradesh | 7% |
| Kerala | 6% |
| Telangana | 5% |
| West Bengal | 5% |
| Gujarat | 3% |
Our lights are made by hand at our workshop in Khatauli, Uttar Pradesh, so many of them travel a long way south before they are switched on.
What do buyers ask before they buy?
The question Indian shoppers ask Google most often before landing on our site is how high to mount a wall light. The most common material question is whether rosewood or teak is the better wood. Next comes how high a pendant should hang over a dining table. We have written a guide to each.
| Order | What buyers ask | Our answer |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | How high should a wall light be mounted? | Wall light height and placement guide |
| 2 | Rosewood or teak: which wood is better? | Rosewood vs teak vs mango wood |
| 3 | How high should a pendant hang over a dining table? | Pendant size and height guide |
The questions line up with the orders. Wall lights are what people buy most, and placement is what they worry about most.
What this means if you are choosing a light
If you are buying your first wooden light, start with the wall: it is the type our buyers choose most often, and it needs no floor or table space. If you want one statement piece over a dining table, a pendant is the bigger decision, so measure before you order. Pick the wood after you pick the light.
| If you want | Start here |
|---|---|
| Light without giving up floor or table space | Wooden wall lights |
| A lamp for a side table, desk or bedside | Wooden table lamps |
| A first wooden piece at the lowest price | Wooden floor lamps |
| One piece to anchor a dining table | Wooden pendant lights |
For a wall light, check the mounting height first, using the placement guide above. For a pendant, use the dining-table guide to settle the drop and size before you choose a design. If you are still deciding between woods, our rosewood and sheesham lamps guide and the wider guide to wooden lamps in India compare the woods we use.
Method
- Source: NixWoods Shopify order data, queried with ShopifyQL. The search questions come from NixWoods' Google Search Console data for India.
- Period: orders placed from 13 October 2025 to 12 October 2026.
- What was counted: orders containing at least one wall light, table lamp, floor lamp or pendant. Shares are of orders, not units, so an order with two wall lights counts once.
- Exclusions: orders without a product type are left out of the type shares, and orders without a billing state are left out of the state shares. The state is the billing state on the order.
- Rounding: shares are rounded to the nearest whole percent, so totals may differ by a point from the sum of their parts. The product list is a rank only; we do not publish counts, revenue or customer details.
- Measured: 12 October 2026.
