7 Handcrafted Wooden Pendant Lights for Modern Indian Homes

7 Handcrafted Wooden Pendant Lights for Modern Indian Homes

The right pendant light does not just illuminate a room. It defines it. The wrong one — too small, too bright, wrong material — makes even a beautiful space feel unconsidered. The right one, hung at the correct height above your dining table or in the centre of your living room, makes the whole space feel like it was designed rather than assembled.

This guide covers 7 handcrafted wooden pendant lights from NixWoods — all made from solid Rosewood (Sheesham) or Teak by skilled Indian craftsmen. No veneer. No MDF. No factory production. Real wood, real grain, real craftsmanship — at prices that make sense for Indian homes.

Before you choose: the three things that matter most

Scale — a pendant that is too small for the space it hangs in looks accidental. For dining tables, choose a pendant diameter that is roughly half to two-thirds the width of the table. For kitchen islands, 25–40cm diameter works well for standard island widths.

Height — hang your pendant 75–85cm above your dining table surface. Too high and it loses its intimacy. Too low and it becomes a hazard. For living room pendants that serve as ambient ceiling lights, hang 180–200cm from the floor.

Warmth — always choose 3000K or below for pendant lights in dining rooms and living rooms. Warm white light makes food look better, faces look warmer and rooms feel more like homes.

1. Scandinavian Rosewood Round Pendant Light — ₹7,599

The most versatile pendant in the NixWoods collection. A rounded dome of solid Rosewood with a warm LED that diffuses light gently downward and sideward through the natural grain of the wood. The Scandinavian form — clean, proportioned, minimal — makes it at home above a dining table, in a living room or above a bedroom seating area.

Best for: 4 to 6 seater dining tables, living room centrepiece lighting Hang at: 75–80cm above dining table surface Room style: Scandinavian, Japandi, modern Indian, minimal contemporary

The Rosewood grain on each piece is unique — slightly different in tone and pattern from every other piece made. This is not a mass-produced product. It is a handcrafted object that happens to be a light.

2. Luxury Rosewood LED Pendant Light — ₹10,999

If there is one pendant in the NixWoods range that commands a room, this is it. A larger, more substantial Rosewood form with 360-degree LED glow — light travels in every direction simultaneously, creating a warm halo effect that fills the room rather than simply lighting the table beneath.

This is the pendant for double-height spaces, large dining rooms and open-plan living areas where a standard pendant would look lost. The scale is considered — large enough to be a statement, restrained enough to be sophisticated.

Best for: Large dining rooms, open plan living spaces, double height ceilings, luxury interiors Hang at: 80–90cm above dining table surface Room style: Contemporary luxury, modern Indian, boutique hotel aesthetic

3. Nordic Teak Wood Curved Pendant Light — ₹7,999

A single curved arm of solid Teak extending from the ceiling mount, the LED positioned at the tip of the curve to direct warm light downward at an angle. This is not a standard pendant that hangs vertically — it is a sculptural form that positions light intentionally, creating a directional warm wash rather than an even pool.

The Teak grain on this pendant runs the full length of the curve — golden-brown, tight and deeply warm in tone. It suits rooms where one considered piece is more powerful than several decorative ones.

Best for: Dining tables where directional light suits the layout, living room reading corners, bedside ceiling light Hang at: 75–85cm above dining table or 160–170cm from floor for ambient use Room style: Nordic, Japandi, minimal, natural material interiors

4. Teak Wood Hollow Bowl Pendant Light — ₹7,999

The hollow form changes everything about how this light works. Solid Teak shaped into an open bowl — light passes downward through the base, sideward through the curved walls and upward through the open top simultaneously. The result is layered, ambient illumination that fills the whole room rather than creating a single pool beneath the shade.

This is the pendant for rooms where you want the light to feel alive. The shadows it throws upward onto the ceiling shift subtly as the day progresses — warm in the evening, slightly golden in the late afternoon. It is one of the most atmospheric pendant lights available in India at this price point.

Best for: Dining rooms where ambient layered light is the priority, living rooms, intimate restaurant and café spaces Hang at: 75–80cm above dining table surface Room style: Wabi-sabi, Japandi, natural material interiors, bohemian minimal

5. 3ft Rosewood Vertical Pendant Lamp — ₹7,999

Every other pendant in this guide hangs horizontally or curves outward. This one hangs vertically — a clean 3-foot rod of solid Rosewood descending from the ceiling, the warm LED integrated at the base, the natural grain running the full length of the rod.

The built-in dimmer is what makes this pendant exceptional for Indian homes. Full brightness for meals and conversation. 30% for film nights. Everything in between for the evenings in between. No separate dimmer switch purchase. No electrician modification. Built in and ready to use from day one.

Best for: High ceilings where a horizontal pendant would look proportionally small, long dining tables with two pendants at each end, minimal home offices and studios Hang at: Adjust via cord so the base of the rod sits 60–75cm above the dining table surface Room style: Scandinavian minimal, modern Indian, Japandi, contemporary

6. Rosewood Pendant Light — Hollow Curved Hanging Light — ₹7,999

A different expression of the hollow curved form — where the Teak bowl pendant is wider and more open, this Rosewood version is more enclosed and directional. The hollow curved structure creates a captivating silhouette that casts warm shadows on surrounding surfaces while directing the main light source downward toward the table.

The solid Rosewood construction means the reddish-brown warmth of the wood amplifies the 3000K LED temperature — creating a depth of warmth that Teak, with its lighter golden tone, approaches differently. If your dining room or living space has warm-toned walls, timber floors or earthy furnishings, this Rosewood version integrates more naturally.

Best for: Dining rooms with warm colour palettes, living rooms with timber floors, bedrooms as ambient ceiling pendant Hang at: 75–80cm above dining table Room style: Warm contemporary, rustic minimal, natural material interiors

7. Scandinavian Rosewood Round Pendant — 30 Inch — ₹4,999

Everything the larger Scandinavian pendant does — handcrafted Rosewood, warm LED, Scandinavian minimal form — at a more accessible price point and in a scale that suits smaller dining tables, breakfast nooks, bedroom ceilings and narrow kitchen islands.

At 30 inches this pendant works above a 4-seater dining table where a larger fixture would overwhelm the space. It works as a bedside ceiling pendant in a bedroom where you want the warmth of wood without the scale of a statement piece. It is the NixWoods pendant for rooms that need warmth and craft without drama.

Best for: Smaller dining tables, breakfast nooks, bedrooms, narrow kitchen peninsulas, entry points Hang at: 75–80cm above dining table, 160–170cm from floor for ambient bedroom use Room style: All styles — the most versatile pendant in the range

Installation — what to know before you book an electrician

All NixWoods pendant lights are hardwired ceiling fittings — they connect to your existing ceiling electrical point. Standard installation takes a qualified electrician under 30 minutes. All ceiling canopies, suspension cords and fittings are included with every pendant.

For dining rooms, ask your electrician to position the ceiling point directly above the centre of your dining table — not above a joist. For living rooms, position it at the room's visual centre rather than the geometric centre if your furniture layout is asymmetric.

All NixWoods pendants are compatible with standard wall dimmers. The 3ft Rosewood Vertical Pendant has a built-in dimmer — no separate switch required.

Why solid wood over veneer

Every pendant in this guide is made from solid Rosewood or Teak — not veneer over MDF, not engineered wood, not bamboo composite. The difference is visible, tactile and long-lasting.

Solid wood develops a natural patina over years of use. The grain deepens slightly. Small variations in the wood become more visible. A solid Rosewood pendant you buy today will look more beautiful in five years than it does on day one. A veneer pendant will not.

For Indian homes where quality is valued and products are bought to last, solid hardwood is the only material worth considering for a handcrafted pendant light.
